The last passenger train pulled out of the Council Grove Katy depot in 1952.  In 1957 the M-K-T railroad line closed.  The building was all but abandoned.

The Council Grove Katy Depot was restored in 2000, and registered as a national historic site.  It reopened in November of 2003, by a family of partners, selling antiques and unique collectibles.  Additionally, the Katy Depot rents retail space for antiques dealers to rent.  This gives the Depot the unique opportunity to display a vast array of interesting, yet authentic items.  These items include locally made soap, candles, honey, wood-work items, art work and many other interesting artifacts.  Some of our dealers are known for scouring the country looking for just the right items to add to their displays.

The Katy Depot's two chimneys are built of "verified" brick made in Coffeyville, Kansas in the late 1800's.
